Well, the baking of King Cakes is a tradition that begins on King’s Day (Twelfth Night), at the start of the Mardi Gras season.
A tiny baby, just like the ones you see here, is baked into the cake. Whomever holds the piece of cake containing the baby is regarded as our next KING! A position not to be held lightly. There are lots of responsibilities that come from such power.
Take your chances on grabbing the “Baby from the Cake” Ceremony and join Asheville Mardi Gras at the venue “SCANDALS”, located 11 Grove Street downtown Asheville, on January 6th.
The party starts at 7 pm and the dancing continues until midnight. This event will be $10 at the door, or FREE to all active 2017 AMG Members.
Become a Member NOW! As always, costumes are welcome, but not required.
Asheville Mardi Gras is a social aid and pleasure club as well as an arts and culture group. The purpose is to strengthen Western North Carolina’s community connections through promoting creativity, frivolity and celebration, based on the traditions of Mardi Gras.
